P1 _Race Central CAR SPOTLIGHT: Rob Gillespie Jr.’s Team Associated B6.1 Sponsors: Team Associated, Reedy, Pro-Line Racing, Chaos Paints, Murf’s Intermountain RC Raceway Hey our review of the new car is in this issue ... isn’t that something! Team Associated just released its newest 2WD buggy to the masses, and their factory drivers were the first to get their hands on them. Rob Gillespie Jr. is from IRCR Raceway in Utah, and he competes at the highest level and mixes up in the Invita-tional Class at the Reedy Race of Champions. We were fortunate to get a chance to sit down with Rob and take a closer look at his buggy, which he admitted he had only a few days with before racing it at this year’s April Fools Classic. He did switch to shocks with Kashima coating, but oth-erwise, the buggy is pretty much straight out of the box. Rob is the type of driver who doesn’t usually embrace new things until he has thoroughly tested them, but he admitted that the new version was quicker and had bet-ter cornering speed. Let’s take a closer look. 60 WWW.VRCMAG.COM Rob’s speed at his home track—Murf’s Intermountain RC Raceway (IRCR) in Utah—is impressive, and he has multiple April Fools titles to back up that speed. Rob has limited time with his B6.1, but he already feels comfortable with it and enjoys the corner speed it provides. Pro-Line Positrons in MC compound are Robbie’s go-to tire, and he spends time prepping them for racing by saucing and scrubbing in. The buggy is outfitted with a Pro-Line wing mounted a tad back and scuffed for visibility. The rear of the buggy is set up with the shocks in front of the arms, and ride height is adjusted according to level of grip.
