P1 _Race Central THE FUTURE OF ELECTRIC OFF-ROAD RACING? Today’s electric off-road racing is faster than ever, with technology pushing the boundaries farther and faster than ever before. Mid-motor buggies have taken over, and high-tech clay tracks with misting systems and leaf blowers that are used to make billiard-like surfaces are the standard in North America. Companies have responded, and a new trend that is splitting hairs between treaded tires and slicks is the new offerings that mimic the “Ghost pin” tire. It is argued that the companies are merely meeting the demand by the racers, but is this really where we want to go? Ask any group of racers, and chances are you’ll get a wide variety of responses. Many scoff at the idea of running this sort of tire and point out that in their eyes, off-road is all about throwing roosts and sliding around in the loamy stuff. They suggest that tracks have lost sight of the common racer and are heading down an unsustainable path.
