TESTED WRENCHING Maintenance_ I don’t have small hands or smell like cabbage, so mini vehicles require a lot of patience for me. Working on them tests my ability not to swear and throw it across the room. Since it has almost exactly the same parts as a 1/10-scale, you can break this rig down pretty far. Just have the watchmaker’s tools ready. Rating: 5 Wear & Tear_ I’m sure you can break something or strip a gear on this, but it’s going to be hard. The speed makes sure you can’t break by hitting anything, but a hard tumble down a rock face could scratch up that pretty hard-plastic body. Maybe we didn’t try hard enough to break it. Rating: 8 Tuning_ It’s super small, but you can probably mess with the internal springs to tune, and if any tire options come out. If you’re super into tuning, you probably aren’t buying this kit. Rating: 5 CONCLUSION Mini anything is a hard com-promise. In this case, you aren’t paying 1/18 the price but instead, about half what the TF2 RTR costs. That price is a hard pill to swallow for me, since my guess is that this is aimed more at being a gift than being purchased by a hardcore trail truck person. If you ignore the price tag and look at what you get, it’s impressive. RC4WD seems to stick to the high-end feel of its products. A hard-plastic, scale body, metal wheels, metal axles and more give you lots of material value you won’t find anywhere else. In the right environment, the Gelande 2 RTR feels like a bigger truck. So despite that price tag, it’s a pretty impressive mini rig. Now if only we played better on that mini golf course. 74 WWW.VRCMAG.COM See? The windmill looks okay.
