This Week in RC – Derek Edition V3

Every week I bring to you what I think is important, or is cool, or what I just feel like sharing with you. This week we’re all about some teasing, so new kits, some tires, and a cat video.

Pro-Line Is a Tease.

If you’re into eyeballs this video might do it for you, but after all the dramatic music, the C+ penmanship, and the back of Tim’s head, there’s a riddle to be solved. We would have guessed Pro-Line would step into the 1/10-scale crawler market since they made a baby version. But if you read the scribble pad it says “FAST.” That cuts out about all of the scale/crawler scene, sans maybe a bomber. We’ll make an educated guess that they might have a full RTR of their popular ARTR kits already sold. This launches before the new COD, so we’ll keep any eye open (see where that went?)

Arrma-gedding Talion BLX

Maybe the lawsuit with Traxxas is going better than we thought? The new 1/8-scale RTR from Arrma packs in a lot of power and a good time. What basically is a 1/8-scale truggy (lawsuit free) the newest version does pack some updates. The video, although boring, shows how fast the RTR is… which is cool.

Kyos-slow goes Speed Metal

I guess it’s good to see Kyosho coming out with new kits. Their RTR’s (to us) have always been a bit of a let down in… well everything. They were never built from a current platform and lacked speed, and even the quality that their race kits bleed. So these new Retro Short Course trucks with solid real axles almost got us smiling, then we watched the video and realized that when a kit is slow you play some speed metal to make it look fast. You almost tricked us… but you can always make this kit go faster if you love the looks.

Mugen Electric Touring

We spent the day testing the new touring car from Mugen. Yes, we asked why. Yes, we know the answer, and no it doesn’t suck. When you come late to the party (10 years late at least) you better look good, go fast, and win. The last time Mugen joined a different class (Gas Truck) the class disappeared. We’re guessing this class isn’t leaving, but we still would have thought an electric 1/10-scale off-road made more sense. But we don’t make any either. Our review is in the works.

Oh, and a cat video.
