It seems like only yesterday that I was emailing Mike Velez about writing for him in Xtreme RC Cars Magazine. I wasn’t even a writer, and my plate was already too full with starting xxx main Racing, but I got in, and all of a sudden I was a professional editor (well, a contributor anyway – suck on that 7th grade English teacher!).
A lot has changed in this industry since all of that happened over a decade ago. But, one thing that has not changed is the dire need; the addiction one could even say, to knowledge within this great hobby. As parts come and go, technologies develop, classes change, and new people arrive, one thing still remains – the immediate draw to credible information on how to make your vehicle go faster, offer greater run time, handle better, or look more scale. This is an information based hobby; so luckily we are slap-dab in the middle of the information era and VRC Mag will be at the forefront of providing this information to you.
My story starts when I was 8-years old and got my first RC Car – it wasn’t even a “real” one but rather a Radio Shack type toy. That didn’t stop me from ripping it apart, changing the motor, upgrading the shocks, and painting up my own custom scheme. I was hooked and soon enough got myself into the high-end of this sport with a Tamiya Striker. Fast forward to today and my toy car resume has expanded beyond even my own expectations. I’ve been racing competitively for over 20 years; even had some A-main finishes at large events. I’ve worked for Canada’s most successful hobby shop for over two-decades and I’ve started and successfully run xxx main Racing for over 10 years. My experience runs from sales, repairs, marketing, product development, production, editor, and racer to include almost all facets of this hobby that run in between. I’ve enjoyed sharing this experience with all of my friends and colleague’s for the past many years. Which brings us to today; Velocity RC Magazine, my next step in this hobby that I’m confident will last another few decades.
We have an outstanding team of people who have similar stories to mine. Derek Buono has dominated the publishing end of this hobby for many years and Mike McMahon has three National titles under his belt. The three of us eat, sleep, and breathe RC Cars, and we’re going to continue doing so with all of you, our readers, for as long as the hobby industry will allow us to.
I welcome you to our dream. I welcome all of you to Velocity RC Magazine. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of reading it as we do producing it.
