I’ll be honest, when I heard a new line of RC cars was coming out I thought it would just be another “found it on the streets of China and pawning it off as “designed.” I was wrong. I stopped in at the new TLR/Horizon R&D center for some lunch, and it happened to be just after the release of the brand. Vaterra is a strange name, but the line up isn’t. Scale touring cars, a 1/16-scale rally, a 1/10 Glamis-style buggy (hey that’s a miny 5B!) and a sick “rock racer” called Twin Hammers. Each touching a segment of the hobby.
I did get all touchy-feely with every vehicle, and the two that stood out were the Rock Racer and the Desert-style buggy. Both had some great looks and the quality (just touch anyway) was high end. I feel this trend of scale and performance is getting more popular…and we like it. We’ll be getting down and dirty with the kits to see if they hold up to the showroom feel.
